Five feel-good stories from Falmouth in 2021

With the new year now upon us, we have taken a quick look back at five of our favourite feel-good news stories from 2021.

[H3] 1. St Ewe Shell Out To Help Out at Falmouth Garden Centre [.H2]

2021 kicked off with St Ewe continuing their Shell Out to Help Out campaign. The Roseland Peninsula egg producer had been popping up at locations throughout Cornwall selling trays of free-range eggs to local communities.

For each tray sold at a reduced price, 1 carton of eggs was donated to foodbanks in Cornwall to try and help ease the growing food poverty issue caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the event at Falmouth Garden Centre, St Ewe revealed that almost 20,000 eggs were sold - thus leading to a donation of 4,000 eggs to local foodbanks.

[H3] 2. Grand reopening for new cafe [.H2]

It was an important milestone for Life's A Beach Maenporth as they reopened their brand new premises.

A fresh start for Leann Wright (owner of Life's A Beach) and her son James after a fire destroyed the business in May 2019.

[H3] 3. Local family aims to brighten up Falmouth with sunflower initiative [.H2]

A local family began distributing sunflowers to students across Falmouth to 'bring a little happiness' and raise money for MacMillan Truro.

Community member Sean Stratton and his children put out nearly 50 sunflower plants at Woodlane Campus - with all proceeds going to charity.

[H3] 4. Local swimmer captures deer taking early morning dip at Porth Saxon, Mawnan [.H2]

A keen local swimmer gained a new swimming buddy after capturing a deer taking an early morning dip.

Olivia Abbott was at Porth Saxon Beach, Mawnan, in March when she saw a male Roe Deer (or a buck) taking a leisurely swim.

[H3] 5. Falmouth heroes celebrated at community awards evening [.H2]

Falmouth's community heroes were recognised and rewarded at an annual awards evening.

The event was hosted for the fourth year by Harbour Lights, with dinner, drinks, and dessert laid on for Mayor Steve Eva and Mayoress Vicky Eva, invited guests, nominees, and their friends and family.

They were on the lookout for anyone who deserves some recognition for their dedication and hard work for a good course, or the continuing support to the greater good or just a general good individual in Falmouth.

The winner was Sophie Alway (Georgia's Voice). Followed by Lynn Newsham, and Keith Collings.
