'Packed busses with no social distancing': Residents look at Falmouth University and bus company for answers

Residents are growing concerned about 'packed' busses that have been spotted around Falmouth.

In complaints to the First Kernow company, residents have expressed their confusion about how passengers on their busses are not following the new 'rule of six'.

In response to a complaint, a spokesperson for Cornwall by Kernow said: "Understand student transport is exempt and can be fully seated loads."

Many people are looking at the University to take control of this situation - as the U1, U2 and U4 busses are not exclusively for students.

In a post on social media, Vince Curtis stated: "We travelled home in the 19:35 bus from Truro to Falmouth tonight.

"All was fine until we hit the campus, suddenly all the social distancing rules have gone out the window.

"Every seat taken upstairs and packed with standing students downstairs."

Vince told Nub News: "For months Cornwall has been observing social distancing rule and as a result we live in one of the safest places in the country.

"Now with cases on the rise, it was awful to see the lack of social distancing among students on the bus last Saturday.

"I don't know how else passengers other than students are expected to catch a bus from Falmouth to Truro, Redruth or Penzance unless I'm missing something."

The transport company has stated that their bus drivers are not responsible for enforcing social distancing.

Rachel Gerred-Hart, Penryn, spotted a U1 bus just after midnight that looked like no social distancing was being followed.

"It seems very counter productive that classes are kept small but they can be rammed into a small confined space without masks and distancing," Rachel said.

Many students returned back to the University last week and have began their studies virtually and in socially distanced groups.

Falmouth Nub News has contacted First Kernow and Falmouth University for a comment.
