Falmouth and Penryn business owners have been urged to join a "Leave The Lights On" initiative after rumours of the towns targeted in the Rape Day TikTok trend.

An international TikTok trend has been shared ahead of April 24th called 'National Rape Day' which calls for men to carry out sexual acts against women without their consent.

Following reports of the 'trend' encouraging the assault of women on 24th April in Falmouth and Penryn, Jade Phipps, owner of Good Vibes Cafe in Falmouth is calling on fellow local business owners to act.

Jade is asking business owners to be in their premises on the evening of the 24th, with the lights on, both as a deterrent to these alleged assault plans, and as a protest against the violence.

Jade and Dan added:

"We'll each be a safe place for vulnerable people walking through the town, whether that be as a port of call on a walk home that feels unsafe, as allies to call out and act against violence against women, or simply as a light left on in solidarity.

"If you'd like to join me, or you have any ideas as to how we can improve on this idea, please message me. Sometimes it can feel hopeless and like there's nothing we can do, but we have to start somewhere."
