'Anti-Wetherspoons' app aims to point Falmouth residents to independent pubs

A new app has been released that aims to point people to independent pubs that are not in the Wetherspoons chain.

Developed by a pair in Manchester, the app was devised from the #NeverSpoons hashtag on Twitter - where thousands joined to boycott the national mega-chain.

Back in March, the chain received backlash on social media after owner Tim Martin stated that his employees should "consider working for Tesco."

Shane Jones, app developer of Neverspoons, said: "Far too many traditional pubs closed down after the previous recession and it was pretty sad to see. Post lockdown could see us heading back that way.

"There are too many of these former pubs in amazing buildings, now derelict, that used to be the central hub for a lot of communities.

"If you can put some money in the till of a smaller independent pub through the use of this app, then it's done the job I intended it to."

The app is allowing pubs to sign up to their service to be included in the listings.

The app currently has over 1000 pubs signed up to their system, and are averaging 200+ users per 30 mins in the app.

You can find out more about the app here.
